Stage 1 Rear Brake Kit
Part Number: ES#4518
Stage I Upgrade Kit, Slotted & Zinc Plated Rotors-Rear
"Serious braking power on a budget" -That was our primary design goal when we started development of a big brake kit for the rear of Volkswagen MKIV and Audi TT FWD and Quattro series vehicles.
The most expensive part of any brake system is the caliper itself. The stock caliper, aside from lacking styling appeal performs quite well under even aggressive driving conditions; it also incorporates a parking brake mechanism, an important function for any street driven vehicle.
The best hardware - Brakes are a serious performance upgrade for any high powered street vehicle. However, most of these high powered street vehicles spend much of their time under the attentive eye of the car enthusiast. Expensive brake systems loose their appeal quickly when coated in a layer of rust. ECS avoids this common pitfall of typical aftermarket brake systems by having the rotor rings and all steel hardware zinc or cadmium coated bright silver, while aluminum components are anodized black.
Rotor design - ECS Tuning elected for the use of a two piece rotor design which allowed greater design flexibility while at the same time out performing any one-piece rotor. Brake rotor temperatures can easily surpass 400 degrees Celsius under even semi-aggressive driving conditions. High temperatures can quickly warp a one piece rotor design as the sweep area of the rotor differs in temperature from the hat. A two piece rotor design reduces rotor warp by allowing for thermal expansion by leaving the rotor to "float" on the hat. We also chose to increase the rotor diameter from the stock 232mm to a massive 308mm. Limited only by the stock calipers girth we retained the solid, 9mm rotor thickness. Vented rotor kits using alternate calipers will be available at a later date.
